C-mount security cameras (or cs mount security cameras, as they are sometimes called) were the first security cameras and defined the industry. In 1970′s and 1980′s, c-mount camera were invented, but they were simply known as security cameras because cs-mount cameras were the only type available. The iconic boxy cs-mount design was necessary because in the 70′s the circuit boards and other internal items in cameras were still very obtrusive. As technology has improved over time, security cameras were able to get much smaller and the bullet camera shape has begun to define the idea of a security camera.
CS-mount surveillance cameras are still some of the best security cameras around, as their size allows them to always support the latest chip sets before any other type of camera. As with all technological developments, when a new lens is developed the first goal is to prove it is possible, and the second step it to make it smaller. Because of this process, c-mount camera are always the very first type of security camera to be able to use a new technological advance. Right now, that technology is 1/2 inch lenses. The majority of other surveillance cameras can only use 1/3 or 1/4 inch lenses. The size of the chip set is important as it defines two things: how well the camera can see in low level lighting conditions and the maximum resolution of the camera.
Although making great interior cameras, cs-mount security cameras face implementation challenges outdoors, as c-mount cameras are very susceptible to harsh weather conditions. They will need special mounting brackets to affix them to outdoor walls.
Infrared surveillance cameras excel at seeing in complete darkness, and many other cameras see well in the daytime, but cs-mount security cameras are some of the only cameras that work exceptionally well in the space between no light and daytime. This ability to record in poor lighting conditions is measured by a camera’s lux rating. Lux is the measuring tool for the amount of light hitting an space. Lower lux ratings means that the surveillance camera can see in lower levels of light but generally increases the cost of the camera.
A common mistake made when shopping for C-mount cameras is to forget to buy a corresponding lens. C-mount surveillance cameras are significantly more adaptable than other security cameras, but their price can be greater as all their parts must be purchased separately . While the cost might be higher to set up a system, it will be of higher quality and save money over time.
CS-mount security cameras, like most models of surveillance cameras, do face a drawback: c-mount cameras require considerable effort to be used outdoors. CS-mount security cameras are more sensitive than, for example, bullet security cameras, and considerable damage can be done to them by wate, wind, heat, or cold. If you need to use a cs-mount security camera outdoors, you will need to purchase a housing and a mounting bracket. Some housings simply protect from rain and projectiles, whereas other are available with heaters and blowers to keep the environment the same. Mounting brackets, just as they sound, enable cs-mount cameras to be installed on exterior walls.
Besides being able to support the newest technological advances before other camera styles, the construction of cs-mount security cameras also have another benefit. They are blatantly obvious. Many banks and large businesses employ cs-mount surveillance cameras simply because they send the obvious message that would be assailants are being watched.
Basically, c-mount security cameras are the first security camera to turn to if you’re looking for a high quality, high resolution video, an indoor camera with virtual cornucopia of options, or a camera that can work even in low lighting. On the other hand, If you are looking for an outdoor camera that doesn’t need to work at night or have the highest resolution, might want to research a bullet security camera. If you are looking for an indoor camera, there is nothing better.
