When multiple medium was employed to mix different typically specific visual art media, it is called mixed media. Numerous artistic media including ink and pastel or painting and collage are combined in a single composition in the process. In mixed media, numerous interesting results could be accomplished. Frequently, discovered items are utilized in conjunction with conventional designer media, like paints and also graphite, showing relevance in your daily activity. In this manner, numerous aspects of art become much more flexible than with traditional artist media.

Who says a painting has only to contain paint? It may feature pictures, clay-based collectible figurines, down, fur, gemstones and also stones. Paints at their simplest are a combination of ground-up pigments combined with a medium that not only enables them to be dispersed equally, but also retains and fixes them on the surface where they’re applied. Deviating from proven techniques might lead to quick degradation of the work and protests about high quality, durability and value for money from clients.

Mixing media in a painting can also add more interest to the artwork and can add energy to your usual painting technique. The real key to making mixed media work is the way you layer the media and what media you use. You can utilize mixed media in painting to create a 3-D, interest-grabbing and completely fantastic masterpiece. When making a photographed or painted work using combined media you will need to pick the layers properly and permit enough drying period between your layers to guarantee the finished work will have reliability. If many media are used, it’s incredibly important to pick a sturdy base where the various layers are imposed. This enables one to incorporate a few techniques and items on fabric creating a thing that is definitely striking without any qualifier needed. It is common since it doesn’t have limitations and that in itself is extremely liberating to the creator of this sort of unusual works.

Mixed media isn’t a 20th-century trend, though in the past centuries designers had been less experimental in the things they utilized. For instance, gold leaf was often added to church paintings; Leonardo da Vinci mixed pastels together with other drawing media; William Blake utilized watercolour washes to his prints; Edgar Degas mixed pastels together with charcoal and printing inks.

However, mixed media must not be swapped to multimedia art because the term multimedia art indicates a bigger span as compared to mixed media, combining visual art with non-visual components such as recorded sound, for instance or with elements of the other disciplines such as literature, drama, dance, motion graphics, audio, or interactivity. Multimedia artwork also frequently engages senses aside from sight, such as hearing, touch, or odour. A multimedia artwork may also move, use up time, or develop over a span of period, rather than staying static as does a traditional painting or sculpture. One more common characteristic of multimedia artworks is the application of advanced technological means, like electronic or computer-generated sound, video, computer animation, and interactivity. It could be a lot of combined utilization of media, like films, music, lighting, CD-ROMs, and also the Internet, as for education and learning or leisure.

Clara Berta is among the best mixed media artists on earth. She is well-known for her brilliant mixed media art which reveals a world of imagination. She definitely doesn’t disappoint!

Mixed media, from acrylic paints to ink to collage, is employed in a variety of artworks that adds texture and body to an artist’s home.. Though it can be difficult to start a mixed media item, mixed media is not as hard as it seems, and a number of effects is possible. Mixed media could be as follows:

1) Light to Heavy. Place lighter mediums such as watercolour paints or even acrylic paints on the canvas or board initially before switching to weightier and thicker mediums like wax and oil paints. Create a coarse draft by drawing a graphic in pencil on the support just before laying down your first layer of the work then continuing with every media. Allow each layer to dry up right before continuing to the next. Take care not to make the piece too heavy if you want to hang it on the wall. 2) Pictures. Using both photographs and photo transfers allows you to place text and pictures on your own canvas. Both add a component to your piece that’s much more mechanical and defined, for images and textual content are not humanly created but employed in the artwork.

3) Knives and Brushes. Making use of knives along with other items to produce texture can also add interesting effects to the artwork. Modelling compound can also be used to produce striking visual components in a piece. Big paint brushes, or those with rough bristles, can intensify brushstrokes. Knife tips may be used to produce a dented surface. Utilize a serrated knife to add consistency to wet paint, as for corrugated metal effects. Build up surface textures by using gesso, heavy body mediums available in craft and hobby shops, as well as modelling paste. Let any kind of mediums not mixed with paint to dry completely before adding some other media to the surface. Make use of sponges to create various textures in paint, like fuzzy colours for backgrounds or even in organic forms. Grattage means scraping texture in dried gesso, usually with a palette or serrated knife. Frottage means method of rubbing a pencil, charcoal or other drawing medium over an item or textured surface to make an impression of that surface. Frottage could be a helpful method to begin a piece by informing the lines and shapes.

4) Found Objects. Found items such as strings, feathers or any other light pieces found in your day to day life could bring an interesting dimension to your work. These types of objects can be used on the top of your piece or underneath it in order to add substance as well as texture. They’ll help add value to your artwork.

The term mixed media art implies the use of various media in the production of one work. This could allow for great versatility and a rich viewer experience as the eye reveals the multiple layers which often characterize mixed media art. The character of mixed media plays a role in its recognition within the contemporary art world, as it can merge well with conceptual visual formulation. The end result can be less a direct visual statement than a way to give irony into play as a comment on a visual statement. At times, mixed media art is frequently used to express political views or even social statements.

Clara Berta is one of the finest mixed media artists worldwide. She is in demand for her impressive mixed media art that uncovers a whole world of imagination. She absolutely does not disappoint!

The salaries of Plumbers are often highlighted in the national press. Within the UK, the figures of 30-70k p.a. are typical of Plumbers, mainly down to their low numbers. The question now is – are we being lied to, or is this the truth? To be certain, for the correctly qualified and experienced plumber, this level of salary is achievable and indeed attainable. Salaries of 70-100k p.a. are achievable, but these appear to be the area of the self-employed Plumbers rather than those who take the more familiar working methods.

If you enter the traditional work environment, primarily working for an established employer, then working hours of Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm are standard. Furthermore from a UK employer, the usual perks are holiday pay and sickness allowance, as well as salaries of between 15k and 30k p.a. The self-employed person can generally achieve higher incomes than those available from the traditional approach, but would need to consider working ‘out of hours’ – and probably longer than the typical 9am-6pm Mon-Fri model. This is clear when self employed plumbers have to work evenings and weekends, where their domestic clients are working during the day.

Around which is the question of self employment which appears to fit some people. This can involve factors such as getting the basics sorted out and the need to use good ‘business sense’ overall. Likewise self-employed people need to consider the implications of costs relating to materials and transport as well as legal and accountancy fees etc. These charges should always remain a small proportion of the overall income so that any profits created always outweigh them. Added to that, the positives virtually always outstrip the negatives!

Often customary work from employers attracts Student Entrants especially if it meets their needs training in working knowledge and experience. On the other hand, the Self Employed Entrant needs to increase their list plumbing credentials as soon as possible. Having said that, we should bear in mind that the majority of self-employed workers tend to migrate towards the narrower ‘domestic’ market, rather than the commercial sector. (At least most of them do)

Considering the education in Plumbing, each path into the industry needs some match in the certification modules. There does remain considerable question when the factor of NVQ’s (SVQ’s in Scotland) is realised.

To begin with the NVQ structure appears to be much more important to the Student Entrant than to the Self Employed Entrant. The Self Employed Entrant will often call upon a wider range of certifications right from the outset; in order to satisfy their perceived client’s requirements. The self employed person needs to consider the wishes of their household clients and use the relative domestic-centred qualifications to satisfy them. The Student Entrant, once they have covered the key fundamentals, will carry on their study in a way similar to an apprenticeship (within the workplace – where the NVQ element can be assessed.) By using this cheaper form of study the Student Entrant can make sound financial savings from the outset. It is often by gaining certifications faster, by being motivated by a more commercial standpoint that the Self Employed Entrant will achieve considerable financial benefits before a Student Entrant.

It is by covering the study needs along with those of a clear careers discussion that meet the financial rewards. For adults with demands of say a 20kp.a and a family to look after, the prospect of going back to college and spending a further 3 years in low-paid apprenticeship work can be very daunting. It should also be remembered that many younger Student Entrants are entering an apprenticeship and thereby have their courses paid for them whereas the mature self-employed students do not. Depending on the level of certification sought and the course itself the costs for people can run into 3k to 10k+.

Whilst the Self Employed Entrant can consider a wider range of education forms including private colleges the Student Entrant is limited to known further-education colleges. Commercially oriented plumbing course companies will provide an established path of training which ultimately leads into recognised skill-sets and qualifications. The ability to train in evenings, part-time or in self study classes allowing people to continue with their existing job and maintaining their current financial situation remains one of the key advantages to Self Employed Entrants. With so many colleges at hand, the key is to secure as many with technical data sources and gather them. We’ve provided links and a book mark to this page (CTRL-D) so you can come back whenever you wish and review the adverts and options available to you.

By going on added training programs many plumbing students seek to increase their ‘marketability’. These courses can provide a range of additional certifications in areas such as Gas, Green Energy and Electrical. Forming part of the common domestic and commercial heating system, Plumbers have often opted for Gas Training.

With core subjects followed by NVQ’s, Gas Training is a thorough and exact training program. For those who trained as a plumber these schemes offer many options for further development and can clearly seen to add additional skills to the table. From this idea the mature student works better with a fusion offered by Gas/Plumbing training. By reducing the NVQ parts the Mature Student appears to be able to allow the focus on the core subjects.

It is from this mix of training methods that the self-employed professional appears to benefit. The opportunity to learn a wider range of perceived skill-sets (whilst earning money from them) becomes the attraction. Instead of having to rely upon third parties to complete certain skill-sets, this adds to their commercial viability. Sub-contracting can not only reduce the earning potential of a job, but also erode the value in the customer’s eye, as they may have to wait for key stages to be handled by someone else before the final completion of the job. The higher the skill level of a Plumber the more that they can offer their client base.

Finally, whilst the Student Entrant breaks into the industry more quickly the Self Employed Entrant has the opportunity for higher potential earnings, but to do so they need to develop a broader range of certifications and a higher level of business skill sets. Note: This relative information is primarily for the UK workplace and policies alone.

The CompTIA A+ course covers 4 different sectors – the requirement is exam passes in 2 specialities to be seen as competent in A+. Because of this, many training establishments restrict their A+ to just two of the 4 sectors. To us, this is selling you short – of course you can gain accreditation, but knowledge of every section will set you apart in industry, where you’ll need a more comprehensive understanding. That’s the reason why you should train in everything.

As well as being taught how to build and fix computers, trainees on A+ courses will be shown how to work in antistatic conditions, along with remote access, fault finding and diagnostics.

If you aspire to being responsible for networks of computers, add the very comprehensive Network+ to your training package. Taking this course as well will prepare you to command a more senior job role. Other ones that might be interesting to you are the Microsoft networking qualifications (MCP, MCSA and MCSE).

A ridiculously large number of organisations only look at the plaque to hang on your wall, and completely miss what you actually need – which is a commercial career or job. Always begin with the end goal – don’t make the vehicle more important than the destination.

It’s a testament to the marketing skills of the big companies, but the majority of trainees kick-off study that often sounds wonderful in the prospectus, but which gets us a career that is of no interest. Try talking to typical university leavers for a real eye-opener.

Make sure you investigate your leanings around earning potential and career progression, and how ambitious you are. You should understand what (if any) sacrifices you’ll need to make for a particular role, what particular qualifications they want you to have and how to develop your experience.

We recommend that students always seek guidance and advice from a professional advisor before you begin a learning path, so you’re sure from the outset that the content of a learning package provides the skills necessary.

Many people assume that the state educational system is the right way even now. So why then are commercial certificates slowly and steadily replacing it?

Industry now recognises that to learn the appropriate commercial skills, proper accreditation from the likes of Adobe, Microsoft, CISCO and CompTIA is far more effective and specialised – saving time and money.

Of course, a reasonable portion of relevant additional detail has to be taught, but focused specifics in the required areas gives a commercially educated student a real head start.

If an employer is aware what areas need to be serviced, then all it takes is an advert for the exact skill-set required to meet that need. Commercial syllabuses all have to conform to the same requirements and do not vary between trainers (as academic syllabuses often do).

Many training companies will provide a useful Job Placement Assistance program, to help you into your first commercial role. Don’t get overly impressed with this service – it’s easy for training companies to overplay it. At the end of the day, the need for well trained IT people in Great Britain is what will make you attractive to employers.

Help with your CV and interview techniques may be available (alternatively, check out one of our sites for help). Ensure you update that dusty old CV right away – not after you’ve qualified!

Quite often, you will get your first role whilst you’re still studying (even in the early stages). If your CV doesn’t say what you’re learning (and it hasn’t been posted on jobsites) then you don’t stand a chance!

If you’d like to get employment in your home town, then you may well find that a local IT focused recruitment consultancy might serve you better than the trainer’s recruitment division, because they’re far more likely to have insider knowledge of the jobs that are going locally.

Do ensure you don’t conscientiously work through your course materials, only to stop and imagine someone else is miraculously going to secure your first position. Get off your backside and start looking for yourself. Put as much resource into securing your first job as you did to gain the skills.

It’s abundantly clear: There’s pretty much no personal job security now; there’s really only industry or business security – a company will fire a solitary member of staff if it fits their commercial needs.

However, a marketplace with high growth, where staff are in constant demand (as there is a massive shortage of properly qualified professionals), enables the possibility of real job security.

Recently, a national e-Skills analysis showed that over 26 percent of computing and IT jobs cannot be filled due to a lack of properly qualified workers. This shows that for each 4 job positions in existence around Information Technology (IT), there are only 3 trained people to fill that need.

Achieving in-depth commercial IT qualification is thus a ‘Fast Track’ to achieve a long-lasting as well as gratifying living.

No better time or market conditions is ever likely to exist for getting trained into this quickly expanding and evolving business.

These days, commercial institutions would be severely hampered if it weren’t for support workers solving problems with PC’s and networks, while giving advice to users on a day to day basis. The world’s need for such skilled and qualified members of the workforce is growing at an impressive rate, as everything becomes vastly more reliant on computers.

One interesting way that colleges make more money is via an ‘exam inclusive’ package and offering an exam guarantee. It looks like a good deal, until you think it through:

Everyone knows they’re still being charged for it – it’s quite obvious to see that it’s already in the overall price charged by the training provider. It’s absolutely not free – don’t think these companies are so generous with their money!

For those who want to get a first time pass, then you should pay for each exam as you go, focus on it intently and be ready for the task.

Isn’t it outrageous to have to pay the training college in advance for examinations? Find the best deal you can at the time, don’t pay mark-ups – and take it closer to home – instead of miles away at the college’s beck and call.

Huge profits are made by a significant number of organisations who incorporate exam fees into the cost of the course. Many students don’t take them for one reason or another and so the company is quids-in. Surprising as it sounds, providers exist that actually bank on it – as that’s how they make a lot of their profit.

It’s worth noting, in the majority of cases of ‘exam guarantees’ – you are not in control of when you can re-take the exam. Subsequent exam attempts are only authorised at the company’s say so.

VUE and Prometric examinations are approximately 112 pounds in Great Britain. Why pay exorbitant ‘Exam Guarantee’ fees (often hidden in the cost) – when the best course materials, the right level of support and a commitment to studying and the use of authorised exam preparation tools are actually the key to your success.

A competent and practiced consultant (in contrast with a salesperson) will cover in some detail your current experience level and abilities. This is paramount to understanding the starting point for your education.

In some circumstances, the training start-point for someone experienced in some areas will be substantially different to the student with none.

If this is your first attempt at an IT exam then it may be wise to begin with user-skills and software training first.

It’s clear nowadays: There really is very little evidence of individual job security now; there can only be industry or sector security – companies can just fire a solitary member of staff whenever it suits the company’s business needs.

We can however hit upon market-level security, by searching for areas in high demand, together with a lack of qualified workers.

The 2006 national e-Skills study demonstrated that 26 percent of computing and IT jobs remain unfilled because of a huge deficit of appropriately certified professionals. Meaning that for every 4 jobs that exist throughout the computer industry, there are barely three qualified workers to fulfil that role.

This disturbing concept underpins an urgent requirement for more appropriately qualified computing professionals across the country.

As the Information Technology market is increasing at such a rate, could there honestly be a better market worth investigating as a retraining vehicle.

You should only consider retraining paths that progress to commercially recognised certifications. There are far too many trainers pushing their own ‘in-house’ certificates that are essentially useless in today’s commercial market.

You’ll discover that only industry recognised accreditation from the major players like Microsoft, CompTIA, Adobe and Cisco will open the doors to employers.

Good for you! Reading this subject matter indicates you’re probably contemplating your career, and if training for a new career’s in your mind you’ve already done more than almost everybody else. Are you aware that a small minority of us describe ourselves as satisfied and happy at work – but most will take no corrective action. We encourage you to stand out from the crowd and make a start – those who do hardly ever regret it.

We recommend you seek advice first – find an industry expert; an advisor who can discover your ideal job, and offer only the learning programs which will get you there:

* Would you like to work with others? If so, do you like working with the same people or do you want to meet lots of new people? Maybe you’d rather be left alone to get on with things?

* Which criteria’s do you have when considering the market sector you’ll work in?

* Do you want this to be the last time you will need more qualifications?

* Is it important for your study to be in an area where you believe you’ll remain employable until retirement?

The largest sector in the UK that fulfils the above criteria is the computer industry, particularly IT. There’s a shortage of knowledgeable staff in the industry, simply have a look at a local job site and you will find them yourself. Don’t let people tell you it’s all techie people sitting in front ofscreens all the time – there’s a lot more to it than that. The majority of workers in the industry are ordinary people, but they enjoy their work and get well paid.

You should look for authorised exam simulation and preparation programs included in your course.

Be sure that the exams you practice haven’t just got questions in the right areas, but ask them in the exact format that the real exams will phrase them. This can really throw some people if they’re faced with unrecognisable phrases and formats.

Ensure that you ask for testing modules so you can test your understanding at any point. Mock exams log the information in your brain – then you won’t be quite so nervous at the actual exam.

It would be wonderful to believe that our jobs will remain secure and our future is protected, but the growing reality for most sectors around Great Britain at the moment appears to be that security may be a thing of the past.

We can however hit upon market-level security, by digging for high demand areas, coupled with a lack of qualified workers.

With the IT business as an example, a recent e-Skills investigation showed a skills gap across the country of around 26 percent. Meaning that for each four job positions that exist across IT, there are barely three qualified workers to perform that task.

Acquiring full commercial computing qualification is therefore an effective route to realise a long-lasting and gratifying profession.

Quite simply, seeking in-depth commercial IT training throughout the years to come is very likely the greatest choice of careers you could make.

Please understand this most important point: Always get full 24×7 support from professional instructors. Later, you’ll kick yourself if you don’t follow this rule rigidly.

Never accept study programmes that only provide support to students via a message system outside of normal office hours. Training companies will always try to hide the importance of this issue. The simple fact of the matter is – you want support at the appropriate time – not at their convenience.

The best training colleges provide an online round-the-clock system combining multiple support operations across the globe. You will be provided with an environment which seamlessly accesses whichever office is appropriate any time of the day or night: Support on demand.

Unless you insist on 24×7 support, you’ll regret it. You may avoid using the support during the night, but what about weekends, early mornings or even late evenings at some point.

Ensure all your qualifications are what employers want – don’t bother with programs that lead to in-house certificates.

You’ll find that only recognised examinations from the likes of Microsoft, Adobe, Cisco and CompTIA will mean anything to employers.

If your search is for Cisco training and you haven’t worked with routers before, what you need is the CCNA. This training course was created to teach students with a commercial knowledge of routers. Big organisations who have various regional departments need routers to connect their networks in different buildings to allow their networks to keep in touch. The Internet also is based on huge numbers of routers.

It’s vital that you already know a good deal about the operation and function of computer networks, as networks are connected to routers. Otherwise, you’ll probably struggle. Better to find a course teaching basic networking skills (for example Network+, perhaps with A+) before getting going with CCNA. Some companies will design a bespoke package for you.

Achieving CCNA is perfectly sufficient to start with; don’t be cajoled into attempting your CCNP. After gaining experience in the working environment, you’ll know if it’s relevant for you to have this next level up. Should that be the case, your experience will serve as the background you need for the CCNP – because it’s far from a walk in the park – and shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Accredited exam simulation and preparation software is a must – and absolutely ought to be sought from your course provider.

Some students can be thrown off course by practising exam questions that are not from official sources. Sometimes, the phraseology can be quite different and you should be prepared for this.

Be sure to request some practice exams so you can test your knowledge at all times. Simulations of exams add to your knowledge bank – then the actual exam is much easier.

The world of information technology is one of the most exciting and ground-breaking industries you could be involved with. Being up close and personal with technology puts you at the fore-front of developments affecting everyone who lives in the 21st century.

There are people who believe that the technological revolution we have experienced is easing off. This couldn’t be more wrong. We have yet to experience incredible advances, and the internet particularly will be the most effective tool in our lives.

The average IT technician in the United Kingdom can demonstrate that they receive noticeably more than equivalent professionals in other market sectors. Standard IT remuneration packages are some of the best to be had nationwide.

With the IT marketplace emerging year on year, it’s looking good that the search for certified IT specialists will remain buoyant for the significant future.

Searching for your first position in IT is often made easier if you’re offered a Job Placement Assistance facility. The need for this feature can be bigged up out of proportion though – it isn’t unusual for training companies to make too much of it. At the end of the day, the massive skills shortage in Great Britain is why employers will be interested in you.

Ideally you should have help with your CV and interview techniques though; and we’d recommend everyone to bring their CV up to date as soon as they start a course – don’t delay until you’ve qualified.

It can happen that you haven’t even got to the exam time when you’ll secure your initial junior support position; however this can’t and won’t happen if your CV isn’t in front of employers.

If it’s important to you to find work near your home, then you may well find that a local IT focused recruitment consultancy might work much better for you than some national concern, because they’re far more likely to be familiar with local employment needs.

A good number of trainees, so it seems, invest a great deal of time on their training course (for years sometimes), and then just stop instead of trying to get a job. Introduce yourself… Make an effort to let employers know about you. Don’t think a job’s just going to jump out in front of you.

You’ll come across courses which guarantee examination passes – inevitably that means paying for the exams before you’ve even made a start on the course. Before you get carried away with guaranteed exams, look at the following:

Thankfully, today we are a little bit more aware of sales ploys – and most of us cotton on to the fact that we are actually being charged for it – they’re not just being charitable and doling out freebies!

If you want to pass in one, then the most successful route is to avoid exam guarantees and pay when entering exams, give it the priority it deserves and give the task sufficient application.

Find the best exam deal or offer available when you take the exam, and avoid college mark-up fees. In addition, it’s then your choice where to take your exam – so you can choose somewhere closer to home.

Big margins are made by a number of companies that get money upfront for exam fees. A number of students don’t take them for various reasons but the company keeps the money. Believe it or not, there are companies around that rely on that fact – as that’s how they make a lot of their profit.

Additionally, you should consider what an ‘exam guarantee’ really means. Many training companies won’t be prepared to pay for re-takes until you can prove to them you’re ready to pass.

Exams taken at VUE and Prometric centres are approximately 112 pounds in Great Britain. Students should be very wary of forking out hundreds of pounds extra in fees for ‘exam guarantees’ (most often hidden in the package) – when a quality course, support and consistent and systematic learning, coupled with quality exam simulation software is what will really see you through.

Anybody thinking about training for the computer industry will notice the number of diverse options on offer. Before embarking on a course, find a company with industry experts, so you can get information on the job roles your training program is designed for. Maybe you’ll find jobs you didn’t know about.

The range of courses is vast. Some re-trainers get started on Microsoft user skills, others want career skills such as courses on Web Design, Databases, Programming or Networking – and all can be catered for. But with this much choice, you don’t have to decide alone. Why not talk to a company who has experience of the IT economy, and can help you arrive at the right destination.

By minimising their overheads, there are training providers today supplying up-to-the-minute courses with excellent training and mentoring for considerably less money than is expected from the old-style trainers.

Many people question why qualifications from colleges and universities are being overtaken by more qualifications from the commercial sector?

Accreditation-based training (as it’s known in the industry) is far more specialised and product-specific. Industry has become aware that this level of specialised understanding is essential to handle an increasingly more technical workplace. CISCO, Adobe, Microsoft and CompTIA dominate in this arena.

They do this through focusing on the skill-sets required (along with a proportionate degree of associated knowledge,) rather than spending months and years on the background detail and ‘fluff’ that computer Science Degrees often do – to fill a three or four year course.

When an employer understands what work they need doing, then all it takes is an advert for the exact skill-set required to meet that need. Syllabuses are set to exacting standards and aren’t allowed to deviate (in the way that degree courses can).

Most training providers will only provide support available from 9-6 (office hours) and sometimes later on specific days; not many go late into the evening (after 8-9pm) or cover weekends properly.

Look for training where you can receive help at any time you choose (irrespective of whether it’s the wee hours on Sunday morning!) Ensure you get direct access to tutors, and not simply some messaging service that means you’re constantly waiting for a call-back – probably during office hours.

Keep looking and you’ll come across professional training packages who offer direct-access support at all times – at any time of day or night.

Never settle for less than you need and deserve. Direct-access round-the-clock support is the only kind to make the grade when it comes to IT training. Maybe late-evening study is not your thing; usually though, we’re working at the time when most support is available.

You should only consider retraining courses that’ll lead to industry accepted exams. There’s a plethora of trainers offering their own ‘in-house’ certificates which are worthless when it comes to finding a job.

To an employer, only the big-boys like Microsoft, CompTIA, Adobe or Cisco (as an example) will get you into the interview seat. Anything less won’t make the grade.

There are colossal changes coming via technology as we approach the second decade of the 21st century – and the industry becomes more ground-breaking every year.

Society largely thinks that the revolution in technology we have experienced is cooling down. This couldn’t be more wrong. Terrific advances are ahead of us, and the internet particularly will become an increasingly dominant part of our lives.

Should lifestyle be way up on your goal sheet, then you’ll be happy to know that the usual remuneration of a typical IT worker is considerably better than with most other jobs or industries.

It’s no secret that there is a substantial national need for certified IT specialists. It follows that with the marketplace continuing to expand, it looks like there’s going to be for the significant future.

There are a total of 4 specialist training sectors in the overall A+ programme, of which you’ll need certification in two subjects to gain A+ competency. But restricting yourself to two of the specialised areas is likely to leave your knowledge base somewhat light. At least learn about all four – for greater confidence in the world of work.

Once on the A+ computer training course you’ll be taught how to build, fix, repair and work in antistatic conditions. You’ll also cover fault finding and diagnostics, through both hands-on and remote access.

You might also choose to consider adding the CompTIA Network+ training as you’ll then be in a position to work with networks, and have a more responsible working role.

One crafty way that course providers make a big mark-up is by charging for exams up-front and presenting it as a guarantee for your exams. This looks like a great idea for the student, until you think it through:

You’ll be charged for it ultimately. It’s definitely not free – they’ve simply charged more for the whole training package.

Students who go in for their examinations when it’s appropriate, funding them as they go are much more likely to pass. They are aware of what they’ve paid and revise more thoroughly to make sure they’re ready.

Do your exams as locally as possible and don’t pay up-front, but seek out the best deal for you when you’re ready.

Why tie up your cash (or borrow more than you need) for examination fees when you didn’t need to? A lot of profit is made because training colleges are getting money in early for exam fees – and then cashing in when they’re not all taken.

You should fully understand that re-takes with organisations with an ‘Exam Guarantee’ are tightly controlled. They will insist that you take pre-tests first until you’ve proven that you’re likely to pass.

Due to typical VUE and Prometric tests coming in at approximately 112 pounds in Great Britain, it makes sense to pay as you go. Why splash out often many hundreds of pounds extra at the beginning of your training? Commitment, effort and practice with quality exam preparation systems are the factors that really get you through.

The somewhat scary thought of finding your first job is often eased by some training providers because they offer a Job Placement Assistance service. With the huge skills shortage in the UK right now, it’s not too important to get too caught up in this feature though. It isn’t so complicated as you might think to secure your first job as long as you’re correctly trained and certified.

Advice and support about getting interviews and your CV might be provided (if not, see one of our sites for help). It’s essential that you update that dusty old CV straight away – don’t leave it till you pass the exams!

Getting your CV considered is more than not being known. A surprising amount of junior jobs are got by trainees (sometimes when they’ve only just got going.)

Most often, a specialist locally based employment service (who will, of course, be keen to place you to receive their commission) is going to give you a better service than a centralised training company’s service. It also stands to reason that they’ll know the area and local employers better.

In a nutshell, if you put as much hard work into securing your first job as into studying, you’re not likely to experience problems. Some people strangely put hundreds of hours into their learning program and just give up once qualified and seem to expect employers to find them.

We need to make this very clear: Always get full 24×7 instructor and mentor support. Later, you’ll kick yourself if you don’t.

Avoid, like the plague, any organisations that use messaging services ‘out-of-hours’ – where an advisor will call back during office hours. This is useless when you’re stuck and need an answer now.

The very best training providers have many support offices across multiple time-zones. An online system provides an interactive interface to link them all seamlessly, no matter what time you login, there is always help at hand, avoiding all the delays and problems.

Find an educator that cares. Because only live 24×7 support truly delivers for technical programs.

We’re regularly asked to explain why traditional academic studies are now falling behind more commercial certificates?

As demand increases for knowledge about more and more complex technology, industry has been required to move to the specialised core-skills learning that the vendors themselves supply – in other words companies such as CISCO, Adobe, Microsoft and CompTIA. This usually turns out to involve less time and financial outlay.

Vendor training works through focusing on the particular skills that are needed (alongside an appropriate level of background knowledge,) rather than spending months and years on the background ‘padding’ that academic courses can get bogged down in – to pad out the syllabus.

Put yourself in the employer’s position – and you required somebody who had very specific skills. What should you do: Go through loads of academic qualifications from graduate applicants, asking for course details and which vocational skills they have, or choose particular accreditations that perfectly fit your needs, and make your short-list from that. The interview is then more about the person and how they’ll fit in – rather than establishing whether they can do a specific task.

Training in Cisco is designed for people who want to learn about routers and switches. Routers connect networks of computers over the internet or dedicated lines. It’s a good idea that you should start with your CCNA. Don’t be tempted to go straight for a CCNP as it’s a considerable step up – and you really need experience to have a go at this.

It’s vital that you already know a good deal about how computer networks operate and function, as networks are built with routers. Otherwise, you’ll probably struggle. You might look for a course covering the basics in networking – perhaps Network+ and A+, and then do a CCNA course. Some providers offer this as a career track.

You should get a bespoke training program that will take you through a specific training path to make sure you have the correct skill set and knowledge prior to getting going with Cisco.

One thing you must always insist on is 24×7 round-the-clock support with trained professional instructors and mentors. Too many companies only seem to want to help while they’re in the office (9am till 6pm, Monday till Friday usually) and nothing at the weekends.

Never buy certification programs which can only support trainees through a message system after 6-9pm in the evening and during weekends. Trainers will give you every excuse in the book why you don’t need this. The bottom line is – support is required when it’s required – not when it’s convenient for them.

The very best programs opt for a web-based round-the-clock system utilising a variety of support centres over many time-zones. You will have an environment which switches seamlessly to the best choice of centres any time of the day or night: Support when it’s needed.

Always choose a training company that gives this level of learning support. As only round-the-clock 24×7 support gives you the confidence to make it.

Considering the amount of options that are available, there’s no surprise that nearly all newcomers to the industry get stuck choosing the job they will follow.

Because without any solid background in computing, how should we possibly understand what someone in a particular job does?

To get through to the essence of this, we need to discuss a variety of definitive areas:

* The sort of individual you are – what kind of jobs you enjoy, and on the other side of the coin – what don’t you like doing.

* Do you want to get certified due to a specific motive – for instance, is it your goal to work at home (maybe self-employment?)?

* How highly do you rate salary – is it the most important thing, or is job satisfaction higher up on your priority-list?

* Understanding what the main IT roles and markets are – and what makes them different.

* You’ll also need to think hard about what kind of effort and commitment you’re going to give to your education.

To be honest, it’s obvious that the only real way to investigate these matters tends to be through a good talk with an advisor or professional who has years of experience in IT (as well as it’s commercial requirements.)

A lot of students presume that the traditional school, college or university path is the way they should go. Why then are commercially accredited qualifications beginning to overtake it?

The IT sector is now aware that to learn the appropriate commercial skills, official accreditation from the likes of CISCO, Adobe, Microsoft and CompTIA is far more effective and specialised – for much less time and money.

Many degrees, for example, become confusing because of a lot of background study – with much too broad a syllabus. Students are then prevented from getting enough core and in-depth understanding on a specific area.

Just like the advert used to say: ‘It does what it says on the label’. The company just needs to know where they have gaps, and then advertise for someone with the specific certification. Then they’re assured that a potential employee can do exactly what’s required.

Consider only training paths which will grow into commercially acknowledged exams. There are way too many trainers proposing minor ‘in-house’ certificates which aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on in the real world.

If your certification doesn’t come from a big-hitter like Microsoft, CompTIA, Adobe or Cisco, then it’s likely it won’t be commercially viable – as no-one will have heard of it.
