A flat screen television is a good choice if you need a new television or just are not satisfied with the picture quality of your current TV. LCD and Plasma TVs despite having a good picture quality often can not display black on the screen very well. This is because they both utilize a fluorescent lighting system to illuminate the screen. When the blacks are more of a grayish color it comes off to the human eye as fuzzy and unclear. This happens because the light sometimes just shows around the diodes within the tubes.

The fluorescent lights inside LCD and Plasma TVs also are not able to produce a rich number of colors, despite the fact that the liquid crystal diodes inside are capable of producing a full spectrum. LED TVs have two different set-ups when it comes to back-lighting. Some LED TVs have a completely back-light behind the screen while others have them placed around the edges. Both of these set-ups consume less electricity than the fluorescent systems used by LCD and Plasma TVS, but they do have their own draw-backs.

An edge-lit LED is much thinner than the backlit variety; however, they are still not capable of the same rich picture a backlit LED is. This is because, similar to fluorescent systems, the lights are constantly on which can muddle the image. Backlit LEDs are thicker overall, but they do produce a sharper, clearer image. For consumers that are concerned about getting the best possible viewing experience, this is the model to go for. There are many choices on the market today when it comes to flat screen televisions, whatever your needs or budget a little research into manufacturers, models and types can lead you to the perfect flat screen TV.
